Giggles and laughs filter through the crowd. The chatter is unbearable for the people out in the hall. The 80’s costumes are a tad bit exaggerated, but that’s okay because everyone is having fun. Candy and pizza are being sold by the Jazz/Hornets choir people. They are taking pride in each thing they sell because they know it is going to a good cause: Their music department. The hours seem to fly by with joy. Awesome music plays and maybe, just maybe, there will be some live music… The smell of pizza and soda overwhelms the almost empty halls. People sing along to the songs. People dance. People talk. People are dressed up from our parents’ time. This is the aura of the Back to the Future Dance.
Did you hear? An upcoming pep-rally on Tuesday the 18th. There will be a terrific activity that you, or any of your friends can sign up for to play! There will be a loud fantastic, loud cheer battle between the grades. This pep-rally will help support the canned food drive that Henley is hosting this year, so bring in cans to help your sting win! There may also be a treat involved for the winning sting! So learn the grade cheers and create a unique poster symbolizing you sting! There will be a winner picked for the cheers and posters, so make it good and be loud! Hope to see you there supporting you sting, and grade by wearing your grades colors!
Go Hornets! Excitement fills the air as kids stand in long lines waiting for a chance to show off their costumes. Laughter and chatter bubble from all around the room. The smell of warm cookies and pumpkin spice reminds us that it is fall. You can’t help but feel the Halloween spirit. Kids of all ages and sizes are dressed in creative costumes, amazing the judges one-by-one. A black cat walks by my table, then a furry blue monster, then an olympic athlete. Both kindness and competition swirl through the large cafeteria. With every turn of your head you will spot another costumed kid. The judges have a concentrated expression on their faces. Everyone can tell this decision is hard for them.
“And the winner is…” One of the judges announces. Tension and excitement fill every middle-schooler in the room. Who won? You’ll have to wait for the costume competition to find out! By: Jenna M. Hey Henley Hornets, here’s another way to show your school spirit! There is a Box Top drive going on right now and you can show your support by simply just cutting a little square out of boxes that you throw away everyday! The Sting that brings in the most Box Tops will win an extra special treat. The drive started on October 20th and will end on Monday, October 27th, so hurry up and start snipping!
Whoo! An upcoming monster mash is coming up on October 23rd! It's gonna be a scream. There will be so much more food, drinks, and all kinds of candy for all the ghouls and ghosts. Maybe we'll even have a few tricks and treats up our sleeves. The Halloween dance this year will be something to be scared of. When I say scared i obviously mean excited! So come on down and have a party! Hope to see you there!
Activity period is a time of pure joy for the students of Henley Middle School. The excitement and rush of getting the same activity as your best friend. This activity period is bound to be just as thrilling as the first, if not better
There are always two questions on the lips and minds of students: What activity did you pick? Are there going to be scott pops? Feet will be pounding on the floor and the hallways will be filled. Everyone running to get there favorite scott pop flavor. Pink lemonade, cherry, Blue raspberry, all so delicious. Which will you choose? Let us know which is your favorite flavor by leaving a comment! As the end of the first 9 weeks of the 2014-2015 school year come to a close we take some time to reflect on what has occurred during them.
In the first 9 weeks we always think of the first day of school. For some it is their first day of middle school while for others it marks the beginning of the end of their middle school career. “It was confusing but fun. And it went a little slow but that is to be expected when it comes to first days of school. And we should know, we’re experts when it comes to fist days.” Anonymous 8th graders. But for 6th graders the first 9 weeks meant a new school. Yet most found themselves quite at home at HMS, mostly thanks to the 6th grade social. The social is a way for the new 6th graders to meet others and have a fun time while doing so. The social wasn’t the only dance happening this 9 weeks. The first all grades dance brought tons of fun to Henley. Pizza, candy, soda, basketball! All these thing and more make dances a great experience. -Jack E. The room was dark, and candy dribbled from pockets as well as hands. Chaperones looked surprisingly tolerant of screaming and inside jokes. It was the back-to-school dance. Dances are always full of promise, but especially this one. It's a new year, with new people, and new things to do and see! While upbeat, happy, dancing songs played, happiness ensued as secrets were revealed, bonding while sharing a soda occurred, and playing basketball while waiting for pizza hungrily transpired. So the question is: did you go?
