Framed
By: Jill B.
You see, it wasn’t always like this. I had a perfect life. I had a good job, a kind, loving boyfriend, everything was normal. We just had one problem. My boyfriend, he’s a vampire. I would tell you everything is still okay. But it’s not. So let me tell you how my life went from a Barbie life, to a living nightmare. My name is Sadie Morrin and this is my nightmare told.
Chapter 1 ~ The beginning.
Sadie
Sadie: Hey, wanna go 2 a movie 2night?
Adam: Sure, what time?
Sadie: 7. I don’t know what movie 2 see.
Adam: What about The Turning?
Sadie: That’s practically a movie about you. Idiot.
Adam: I am an Idiot. What movie do u want 2 watch?
Sadie: Decide later. Work is calling. xoxo
Adam: Bye honey.
As I looked up from my phone, a gust of wind opened the doors opened to our building.
“Morrin, Razy. Case time.”
My chief shouted out. I pushed myself up, probably another attack. Nothing bad. Razy, is my partner. We solve murders together, and are the best team here in our FBI division. I pull on my jacket and head over to the meeting room.
“Subject 12B4, murdered. Head severed from her body. No prints or signs of anything from where she died. So no clues. Get on it.”
Garret shoves the papers to us from the other side of the marble wood table.
“Alisha. Run it down to Berring? He can probably show us something on the body that the photos can’t.”
My partner nodded before heading out the door. I grabbed the handle and walked out, heading towards the elevator. As I pressed the button to go down, A lady, blonde and frail comes in, bombarding police in the station about her daughter,
“Tell me! Is Britney dead! She didn’t come home last night. Please! Help me find my daughter! I heard there is a murder case. I want to see if it’s her!”
I walked over to the lady, placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Could you come with me? I think I can help.”
The lady follows me to my office.
“My daughter? You know where she is?”
I looked at her with pity.
“Is this her?” I opened the folder, picture in hand. Silence. Everywhere in this building it seems quiet. Then a slight gasp comes from her mouth.
“Yes. Britney Dashner.” Mrs. Dashner looks at me. Tears on the rim of her eyes. “Could I do anything? To find who did this to her?” I closed my shoulder, Looking down at the ground.
“For now, you can’t. But we will call you if we need anything that could help, but for now, we need you to go home and rest, collect and deal with your emotions.” Mrs. Dashner nodded.
“I’ll go tell her fiance, and father.”
I smiled, trying to assure her everything would be okay. This case is going to be the death of me. I sigh, pulling my phone out, I can’t make the date since this case might take all night, like all my other ones.
Sadie: Can’t make date 2night, work is crazy. Sorry, rain check?
Adam: Ok. @ grocery store for some food, suggestions?
Sadie: Starbucks and chips?
Adam: Ok, see ya l8ter
Sadie: Bye. xoxo
I put my phone away, walking out of the elevator to see if any news has come up about Britney’s death. As my fingers touched the cold, metal doors i heard a gasp. I walk in faster, my heels click-clacking on the marble floor.
“So? Cause of death?” I looked at Dr. Berring, the smell of medicine and plum radiating off of him. His vibrant green eyes looked at me, his mud brown hair, shaggy with streaks of gray peeking through, hid his oh so pretty green eyes from the world.
“N-not yet. I-I can’t find anything. B-but you see here,” the doctor pointed to the severed head near her neck, “Two puncture wounds, a t-tranquilizer gun p-perhaps?” I looked down, they looked so familiar. “Could you put her head near the neck? Like it was never severed?” I questioned, motioning to the separated pieces. He quickly nodded, putting his blue, latex gloves on, to protect him.
“There.” He said removing his hands from her head. I needed a closer look. I started moving closer but right before i could go any closer his hand stopped me.
“Hair up please, a-and a mask. P-protection.” he quickly stated. I quickly grabbed my long curly, auburn hair, putting it up in a messy ponytail. Grabbing a small mask I put it over my face. I leaned closer, no one stopping me.
“Morrin!” Someone shouted. Alisha peeked in the room. “The father... he is insane. He brought a gun, he won’ put it down until he talks to you, or finds out how she died.” I looked at the girl, is she insane? “I’ll be up in a second. I need to take a look at these-,” Alisha interrupted,
“No, like right now, up and out Sadie. Chief's request.” She smiled at me, pointing up.
“Fine.” I grunted, pulling the mask off and pushing a few stray strands away from my lightly freckled face. “I swear this job will be the death of me.” I stated aloud.
Chapter 2- Meet Adam
Adam
I could feel the scent of blood tickle my nose.
“ We got one.” I whispered.
“ Great. You go do the dirty work.” Said him. I nodded my head in response and started to track down the smell, stalking, smelling. Just as I got to the end of the trail I saw it. The deer was prancing in all its glory. I slowly stalked in the underbrush, then I pounced, landing on the deer. Unusually, I was struggling to bite the deer’s neck, instead I bit its leg, having it struggle in pain. In that horrible moment, My phone suddenly buzzed, it was Sadie. I had to answer or she would suspect something. I let the deer run away, just to answer my phone.
Sadie: Can’t make the date 2night, work is crazy. Sorry reschedule promise.
Adam: Ok.Just @ the grocery store getting food, have any suggestions?
Sadie: Ok just get me some starbucks and chips?
Adam: Ok cya l8ter.
Sadie: Bye. xoxo
Frustrated that I just lost a date and some food, I went over to him.
“ Can’t stay longer, Sadie is getting suspicious. See ya tomorrow.”
“ Ok, tomorrow.”he said. I turned my back and ran to the grocery store for chips and starbucks. I pushed my hair out of my face. My forehead was covered in sweat. She would notice that I had been out today.
“ What should I do?” I whispered to myself. I then I realized that I was awkwardly just standing in front of the front desk staring into space.
“ Ummm, ya. Just umm, one strawberry and cream frappuccino. With whip cream. Thanks” I muttered. After paying I ran ( Because I didn’t have a car with me) home with 6 six grocery bags in one can and a strawberry and cream frappuccino in the other.
“ Anyone home?” I yelled as i got home. No answer. I walked into the kitchen to check the time. It read 6:30pm. Good, i would have another hour or so. As i was turning around to put the grocery bags down HE was there. Standing. Watching. his red eyes staring into my soul.
“ Why are you here? I've already told you, my home is private, you shouldn't be here.” I commanded.
“ Why, I have to be here! I have to be with you.” He said with a firm voice. How could he even be here? Homes were private. Private even for him.
“ Please leave my house, or i will make you leave.” I ordered.
“ Sounds good. I will see you tomorrow.” HE whispered. Right then HE was gone in a flash. HE was very fast, faster then me. Now it was 7:00pm. I had to change and take a shower before she was home. I zoomed into the shower, and changed into non, sweaty clothes, putting the sweaty ones in the washing machine,
“ Hey honey i'm home!” It was Sadie’s voice. I dashed into the kitchen, looking like i was just about to make dinner,
“ Hey! Just in time for dinner, i tried to make it before you got home. How was your day?” I asked.
“ It was interesting. Lots of cases. There has been 10 murders since last year! Something bad is happening.” She exclaimed. She couldn't know anything. She couldn't know.
“I wonder what has been going on. Any leads?” I asked, trying to sound normal.
Not yet. There were two marks on a girls neck, but it could be injections. Like points of needles.” She sighed. Taking off her metallic black heels. “This case may never be solved. But I will try with all my might to bring justice for the girl’s family,” She looked over at me, then down at the dinner plate.
“Spaghetti and meatballs,” I said, shoveling a meatball in my mouth.
“Yummy! I’m gonna go wash up and then I’ll come and join you.” As Sadie walked away I thought of my doings. “The nights I’ve been out, I hurt all of them. I didn’t mean to. I got carried away, their blood was just so good. I can’t get caught. But how can I cover up my tracks?” I thought outloud.
“Cover what tracks up?”
“The tracks that I made, when I ate all the ice cream.” I quickly lied.
“Uh huh. Sure. You say that.” Sadie laughed sitting down and digging into her plate of food.
Chapter 3 ~ Come again.
Sadie
“Why can’t you just give me the remote? Please baby? It is right there!” Adam whined, his arms propping his head up on the bed.
“I have to get ready. Just roll over and you can easily reach it,” I laughed, pointing my hand to the nightstand right next to him.
“Fine. I guess you’ll have to pay for that later. By watching a football game with me, and eating extra messy food!” Adam grinned. Was that a threat? I think not! If it was, that was a bad threat!
“Oh, I’m so scared. Extra messy food. Oh no. I’ll die.” I laughed putting my gun, and putting it in my belt and grabbing the door knob.
“Are you forgetting something?” Adam asked pointing to his cheek.
“Nope.” I walked out the door giggling like a schoolgirl.
“Sadie. Come back!” Adam groaned, his feet shuffling on the floor.
“I need to go! I’ll be late!” I groaned grabbing my car keys and an apple. I turned around and started walking towards the door.
“Wait!” Adam yelled. A small kiss landed on my cheek. “Okay. Now you can leave.” He smiled, his teeth sparkly white, and the smell of coffee lingered on his breath.
“Well it seems this morning is going to be another good one.” I smiled heading out the door and walking into the elevator. I pushed the down button. It took a few minutes to come up, but I knew it was near when i heard the grinding of the gears becoming louder. Ding. The golden elevator doors opened, a mirror surrounded all the walls, a clear reflection of yourself everywhere. I stepped in, the doors slowly closing, like a dramatic ending to a play.
“Hold the door!” Someone yelled, slipping there hands into the traitorous closing doors.
“Here,” I pushed the button, the one silver one that says Push to open doors. A hand, then a body slipped through the door.
“Thanks, I thought I would have to wait for the next one.” The man sighed. His red shaggy hair hiding his eyes. Small freckles lined his face, dimples slightly showing.
“No problem. I’m Sadie,” I smiled, holding my hand out for a proper greeting.
“Holden,” He replied, shaking my hand a giving a small smile towards me.
“Are you new here?” I asked, attempting to make small talk. I didn’t think it was quite working well, but a girl can try.
“Just moved in. I got a new job here, suppose to help two girls with something.” Holden moved his hair up, to reveal his vibrant blue eyes.
“Maybe I could help you navigate. Where are you headed?” I asked looking at what floor we were at, this elevator was as slow as ever.
“The NYPD station, I think it is like Queen something.” He looked down at his phone.
“I work there but for the FBI, I’m on the upper levels. How about we walk there together so we can get to know one another?” I suggested, I grabbed my purse, as it slid down my arm. The anticipation was horrible, I wanted to get off this elevator. I wanted to have a normal day like I usually do. Why did I suggest that? What if I don’t like him? What if he is weird? What if he takes my job? That would be horrible! I can’t be too kind. I need to toughen up!
“I would like that. You seem nice. Maybe we could get some coffee on the way? I think a Starbucks is on the way.” Holden smiled, his dimples proudly showing. It wouldn’t hurt would it? I mean if we are going to work together we need become friends or something.
“Uh. Sure. I guess we could grab some.” I smiled, trying my best not to come off mean by saying no or something. As the elevator doors slid open, a slight breeze of air came rushing in. The smell of hot dog carts, sewers and gas form all the yellow cabs running, was inhaled and trust me, it didn’t smell so good.
“This can’t be real!” Holden shouted, searching through his man purse. “I left my papers in my apartment.” He looked up, wide blue eyes staring at me, “This really can’t be happening.” He sighed, slowly trudging to the elevator again.
“Want me to wait?” I suggested, I really need to stop that, I don’t even know the guy.
“Nah, it’s fine! You go on ahead. We can get coffee later?” His head turned back to look at me.
“Uh. Sure?” I replied, dumbfounded that he actually said no. “Well good luck!” I shouted, the golden elevator doors shutting, hiding him and everyone else from the city. I turned away, starting my way to the sweaty, crowded subways. This morning is going unusually better than normal.
Chapter 4 ~ Just go away.
Adam
Knock, knock, knock. A banging sound awoke me from my slumber.
“Adam! Let me in! You can’t run from me! We need to get you out of here. I think the police are on to you and me!” It’s her again. Why can’t her a her little squeaky voice leave me alone?
“Adam! Remember me? Abigail? I’m trying to save you from being killed! Just open the freaking door!” Abby yelled, more like screeched at the top of her lungs. “I’ll scream the song by Mary Poppins again!” She said in a sing-song voice. Dear lord, save me now. I can’t deal with her. “One! Tw--,” I whipped the door open, the smell of her perfume, may I add smells horrible, comes in. “Good. Now go pack and hurry up would you? I’ll right a note to Sadie saying you found some other girl and it was love at first sight and all.” She giggled walking over to the kitchen table.
“Even if you are my sister you can’t do that! I love her. I’ll say I left on a business trip or something.” I boomed, storming my way past her and into my room.
“I like my idea better! She’ll be upset to call and all that. So that way she won’t worry when you won’t come back!” I could tell by the way she was talking that she most liekly was smiling, and to me, that isn’t good.
“Abby, seriously don’t do this. She’ll be upset and if I come back i want her to still love me.” I begged, walking to my little sister, scribbling my initials on the page. I can’t change it now.
“Okay big brother, get those pointy teeth out of this state now. Plane leaves in two hours!” Abby shrieked looking at her wrist, yet nothing was there, no watch or anything.
“You’re delusional.” I grumbled, trudging gloomily towards my bags. I hope she’ll understand. I mean, I trusted her with my biggest secret.
“Adam? Stop spacing. No rocket ship here, so come back down to Earth.” Abigail giggled from outside the doorway. I turned around, my eyes in a line and my mouth twitching out of anger.
“Fine. let’s go.”
Chapter 5 ~ Goodbye, I guess?
Sadie
“Morning!” A voice shouted throughout my floor. Everyone grunted, taking a slight sip of their coffee. Words are being exchanged about this new comer.
“Who is that?” The main question being asked.
“The name is Holden Walker. I will be helping out with the new cases assigned to Agent Morrin and Agent Rosy, I apologize if I said your name wrong.” I looked up, to be met with the bright blue orbs staring at me.
“Sadie! Hello! I got you coffee. I took a guess but I hope you like it! It’s a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I didn’t know if you wanted something hot or cold so i just picked the newest and most popular drink here.” Holden handed me the scalding hot coffee.
“Oh. Thank you.” I plastered on a smile. I can’t let him get to me so quickly.
“So, I was wondering if you knew Agent Morrin or Agent Rosy. I can’t seem to find either of them.” His smiled faded to a frown.
“About that,” I quickly yelped out. “I’m Agent Morrin. My partner is Agent Razy. Pronounced Rah-zee,” I stated not wanting her to get annoyed with someone again. Let me tell you, it isn’t pretty.
“Oh sorry,” Holden glumly apologized. “Where is she anyway?”
I looked at me watch and looked back into the gorgeous green orbs.
“She should be here in 3..2..1,” Then the elevator door opened, a petite messy girl came running in.
“I’m sorry I’m late! Morrin! Did I miss--,” She suddenly stopped, looking up from her purse.
“Holden?” Ally slightly gasped, dropping everything to the wooden floor. “What’re you doing here?” She put her arms out, welcoming a hug, “ No hug? I haven’t seen you since our family reunion!” Holden sighed, plastering on a smile.
“It has been quite some time hasn’t it?” He chuckled, walking into the hug, enclosing his arms around Ally. Holden rolled his eyes, it seemed he didn’t really like her that much.
“How come you have never introduced me to this lovely lady before? Sadie is quite gorgeous,” Holden winked at me, unraveling his arms from around Alisha.
“Well it seems that you two already met. To bad you guys can’t date. She is occupied. Taken. Taken bacon. Off the ma--,” I interrupted blushing.
“ We get it. But Adam has been acting weird lately and I don’t know. I feel like he has been cheating. We can work it out though. He loves me, and I him.” I shrugged, then tasting my Starbucks drink.
